I got a pair of Freet barefoot shoes, mainly because I needed a new pair of shoes and also that they were made locally in Yorkshire and from recycled materials.
I don't know how write this review without coming across negative. Please don't take it as a "diss" against these great shoes and the company*, they just failed where other don't for me and wasn't the right shape or size for my feet.
To get a pair of Freet Pace's that is wide enough for me, I had to go a size up according to their size chart. This meant a size EU 46 where I tend to be size EU 45. This meant I had about 1"/2.5cm space in front of my big toes. Which made them a wee bit like clown shoes for me, but I got used to it.
At first the width didn't bother me but they are still a wee bit narrow where I would like the wide part of the shoe to be. This is where Saguaro and VIVO's have been spot on for my feet.
I was bit lazy and didn't think about getting some heel protectors for the shoes a bit earlier. So the wear got too bad and therefore I couldn't repair them. I tend to wear out the heel on the inside of the shoes or boots, before anything else starts to wear out. So the Freet Pace did exactly what I do to all my other shoes. Though this did feel that it happened a wee bit faster than normal, but I did wear them everyday and everywhere. They easy got 5+ miles and 10-12 hours of wear every day.
The rest of the show was brilliant, nice grip, flexible and just cool enough on warm days. And I've came to enjoy the elastic shoe lacing because of them, dead east to pull tight and the shoe just stays put on your foot. None of that re-adjusting because you pulled a bit to hard and now you have to do them up again.
I really liked the fabric, that's made of recycled coffee grounds, though not the fastest fabric when it comes to drying.
I did some trail runs in them and they did the job perfectly, though the extra space in front of my toes wasn't the best, as that sometimes caught some random nature, lucky it never caused me to fall.
Oh and the price isn't at an near eye watering VIVO shoes level. Which is great as I got nearly two years out of them before the fabric on the inside near the heel was worn away and the sole was nearly gone on the ball of the foot where I strike. And a crack started to appear where the sole bends. The sole and fabric also started to come apart a few places, like a the very top of the shoe, as the extra length clearly caused some ground strikes.
So really Freet's shoes are brilliant and if they fit you better than they do me, you will have a great pair of shoes at a very good price point (though I see that they have gone up since I bought my pair), especially when we are taking recycle materials.
