Campsite review of Kinkell Braes Caravan Park, St Andrews, Fife, KY16 8PX

Kinkell Braes Caravan Park, St Andrews, Fife, KY16 8PXDescription: (From their site) Kinkell Braes is situated on the hillside overlooking the town and the bay. We have a well kept holiday park which has a family bar with entertainment and restaurant. Our hire fleet is modern and reasonably priced. Children are well catered for with our play park.

Site visited: 3/4/5th of September 2010.

As seen on the blog: A good walk spoiled

By contrast to what we read about this campsite the night porter was very pleasant and helpful.

We picked Kinkell Braes because it was the nearest to St. Andrews we could find a campsite, the other were just that little bit too far out to cycle after a good dinner.

Kinkell Braes is more a mobile home and caravan site than a campsite for tents. The tents area is by the look of it only a tenth of the site but within easy walking distance of the toilet block.

Unfortunately the mobile homes take the great view over St. Andrews away, but you can walk down from the campsite to one of the beaches in St. Andrews.

The shower block is run down and the men's has just had a coat of paint to lift it above the 'run down' look. Shower heads are for some reason directed towards the shower curtains, rather than your body. So while you are frantically hitting the timed tap you are pushing the shower curtain away from you.

The first night we were there the water in the ladies was cold or freezing. The next day the shower was hot in the ladies and luke warm in the gents.

There is a little shop for the basics and ice cream and a restaurant and bar on site. The staff we talked to on the phone and met on site was very helpful and friendly.

Though this is not a site you will come to if you are on a camping holiday. Great distance for doing the tourist things in St. Andrews but didn't have that campsite feel to it, even with the tractor in the playground.

Ratings:

Only three oinks because of the run down feel to the site and that it was more of a mobile home holiday camp.
