I managed to change the dead ball bearing in the HOPE hub and what can say.
It is smoooooth 🙂
Though if there is a next time I better make sure that I got the right tools before starting the job. I had to make it up as I went along. Because the bearings really stayed put in the HOPE hub, so I needed a bigger knock’o’meter. And also better fitting tools so that I don’t damage the hub or the bearings. I was lucky not to this time around but I’m sure it will happen one day.
The rust you see on the picture is not from when it exploded, it is from when I cleaned it up to see what damage there was. Two bearing gone, see the one on the side and the others are very cut to bits.
I do hope that the bearings I have put in will last longer than 2500 miles.
