Woodlands Caravan Park, Devils Bridge, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, SY23 3JW

Description: The Woodlands is a well established, family run caravan park set amidst some of the most beautiful scenery Mid Wales has to offer. It is situated in Devils Bridge, a small village nestling at the top of the Rheidol Valley, 12 miles inland from the coastal town of Aberystwyth. It is an ideal base for touring Mid Wales, walking, cycling, mountain biking, birdwatching, fishing or just relaxing and taking in the fresh air.

Site visited: 28th of August 2009.

As seen on the blog: Here be Dragons, Chapter II : Hello Granny (gear).

Arrived to a manicured place that looked more than a static mobile home place than a campsite. Big scupltures of horses, deer and bulls were scattered all over and even a bicycle in the tree.

The site also has a little shop for your basics. The shop is also a cafe which on Fridays, and other days during the season, serves a take away menu.

The very friendly staff recommended the cheesy lasagne at the Hadfod Hotel just over the Devils Bridge. Which was very yumyum and worth the one hour wait, since we arrived an hour before the kitchen opened. Peli had veggie Bangers and mash which was also good.

It is a bit of a hit to the system when you have cycled around Wales and have arrived at the campsite and are really looking forward to relaxing your weary legs. To find that you have to climb yet an other hill to be able to pitch your tent.

There are plenty of things for the kids to play on, climbing frames and remember the sculptures? And best of all for a cycle tourer there is a bicycle shed with Sheffield stands to lock your bicycles safely to.

The staff did say that the site was busy and it was but we still managed to find a quiet corner with beautiful surroundings.

The only let down of this wonderful site was the toilet block. It was a temporary portaloo block with 3-4 toilets with 3 showers. You could feel it rock and it was very dirty, ok it was a very wet day in Wales. And I overheard someone say that the hot water had gone. Luckily we showered outside rush hour.

When you look at the friendly welcome by the staff and the look of the site, the toilet facilities were a let down.

You can’t say no to site that have LEGO Techinc on display, built by one of the staff’s parents 😉 Brilliant and wonderful site, just not there because of the toilet facilities.
