Alpkit SkyeHigh 800 Sleeping bag, a hug in a bag :)

Description: (From their site) A serious sleeping bag choice for those with big ideas but limited by a budget (we all know how that feels). 650+ fill power, ripstop nylon outer and 4 fill weights to cover most situations. The SkyeHigh series is the low cost introduction to the family of Alpkit goose down sleeping bags.

As seen on the blog: Label : Alpkit SkyeHigh 800

I have tried various sleeping bags over the years mostly synthetic ones. Though they have been great and kept me warm, they have nothing on a sleeping bag with down.

I think the reason why I never have had a down bag is because of the price. But you can’t put a price on a hug can you ? And you can get more expensive down sleeping bags out there, but Alpkit have made the SkyeHigh 800 at around £100. Which isn’t bad at all, since you get a good sleep erm good piece of kit, it does really feel very nicely put together.

Yes this sleeping bag doesn’t pack down small compared to other bags I have had over they years. It takes up one of my front Ortlieb Sport Packer Plus Pannier with nothing to spare. Yes it is bulky too but the nice warm hug I get when I crawl into it after a day on the road is worth the extra space it takes up.

I have yet to try it out when it is serious cold, I think the coldest we have tried as of yet was 10c and we were toasty. So therefore I’m not scared of going touring this coming winter, even though this is only a three seasons sleeping bag.

As with the Black Octane 3 tent I do not have a problem with the size, I can fit snugly inside this sleeping bag and I’m 6’4″. It feels a bit narrow but that is because I tend to sleep quite spread out when using a duvet. So it is just something I have to get used to while camping, or sleep with it open. Which is not really a problem since I’m quite easily warm with just a t-shirt on.

Simply put this sleeping bag combined with the Exped DownMat is the best sleep you can get while touring anywhere.
